Islamabad: Differences cropped up among the leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) over winding up the ongoing debate in National Assembly on presidential address to the joint sitting of the parliament.
Sources told The News Tribe that the law minister was to wind up the debate over the presidential address to the joint sitting of the parliament. But, Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio expressed his inability to wind up the debate, arguing that he is not well-versed and have command on Urdu and could not address the assembly on the important issue.
The sources claimed that Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Raza Rabbani and Religious Affair Minister Khursheed Shah were asked to wind up the debate, however, they refused to do, saying that as the resolution to thank the President for addressing the parliament was tabled by Law Minister, hence the minister should wind up the debate.
However, they added, after consultations the task was assigned to Minister for Kashmir Affair Mian Manzoor Watto to wind up the weeks long debate on presidential address. Now, Watto will wind up the debate on Friday.
It is to be mentioned here that the resolution to initiate debate and thank the president for his address to the joint sitting was tabled by then Law Minister Babar Awan. However, later he resigned to plead the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto case reference in the Supreme Court. Consequently, Chandio was made Law Minister.
