Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Tuesday that constructive engagement with India was vital for both the countries to move towards the goal of establishing good-neighbourly relations.
Talking to Secretary Foreign Affairs Salman Bashir and Secretary Commerce and Trade Zafar Mahmood, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan wanted to move towards a comprehensive and broad-ranging engagement with India on the basis of equality, mutual trust, interest and respect.The two secretaries called on him at the Prime Minister House to discuss the forthcoming trade talks between Pakistan and India.
Prime Minister Gilani asked the Secretary Commerce to take on board all the stakeholders for establishment of mutually beneficial trade relations with India.
The Secretary Commerce apprised the Prime Minister that Pakistan-India trade volume was around 2 billion dollars and 1946 items were being traded between the two countries. He also discussed details of the talk’s agenda with the Prime Minister.
