Brussels/Islamabad: Pakistan’s parliamentary delegation has urged NATO to revisit their policies towards Afghanistan and should hold dialogue with all factions of Taliban to achieve long-lasting peace.
The three-member delegation led by Maulana Fazl ur Rehman visited NATO headquarter in Brussels.
According to NATO spokesman, Pakistani delegation called on high level NATO officials from the public diplomacy, political affairs and security policy.
The delegation was briefed from the NATO operations division. During the visit they discussed the alliance’s new strategic concept. NATO’s new partnership policy and the alliance’s operations in particular the NTAO led ISAF mission in Afghanistan
Rehman urged the NATO to review their policies towards Afghanistan. He said peace cannot be achieved with military operations ultimately NATO and its allies would have to go in negotiations with Taliban in Afghanistan, sources said,
The US and NATO should negotiate with all factions of Taliban not with one group to achieve lasting peace, sources quoted Rehman as saying.
He said the security situation in Afghanistan affecting the Pak-Afghan border areas as well as security of Pakistan. Pakistani delegation also raised serious question on drone attacks but NATO officials told the delegation that their mandate is limited only to Afghanistan. They believed the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan.
