Islamabad: Dr A Q Khan, the father of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, says that the cricket world cup semi-final between Pakistan and India should be taken as a match and not a matter of national pride and honor.“The media has created such hype that the whole nation is compelled to take it (the match) as a world war. They think defeating India is conquering the whole world,” Khan told The News Tribe during an interview.
“No doubt, every match between India and Pakistan is a big match and heightens emotions at both sides of the border. Any win against India always brings cheers on the faces of Pakistanis. But the media should avoid making such a hype that overshadows the grave challenges being faced by the nation,” he said.
To a question, he said that his prayers were with the national team. “I am praying not only for their win against India but also for their victory in the final.”
He urged Pakistani players to give their 100 percent performance on the field.
Khan said that the nation should pray for the victory of the team and also pray for the betterment of country’s situation.
“I have never seen Pakistan in such a bad situation during the last 63 years, where today Pakistan is. Inflation and unemployment are at the peak and economy of the country is in tatters, besides worst law and order situation. And the rulers seem least interested in steering out the country from the prevailing crises.”
