London: Pakistan former President Pervez Musharraf revealing the dual policy of Britain over torture of arrested Al-Qaeda suspects has revealed that UK government never stopped him from torturing the Al-Qaeda’s arrested suspects
“I was never told that its British policy that its citizens should not be tortured thus it was a silent approval to what we were doing” Pervez Musharraf said while giving interview to BBC program ‘Secret War on terror’.
The former President’s statement makes dubious the public stance of UK. The questions are rising as to what extent MI-5 knew about torturing the people in war against Al-Qaeda while former Director General MI-5 Elizabeth Mangham has denied any connivance in this regard.
Pervez Musharraf said that we are dealing with terrorists and in order to get some information out from them thus we have to give intelligence agencies some leverage for torture.
Ethiopian Binyamin Muhammad was arrested in 2002 on charge of planning for terror attack in Pakistan later, was kept in Guantanamo Bay jail. Binyamin, who had lived in UK for 8 years, had claimed that he was hanged by tying his hands to a board and whipped.
He said that UK security services were aware about the torturing. Binyamin further told that had confessed to crimes, which he even didn’t do, to escape torture.
Sir David O Mand who had been Coordinator of UK Security and Intelligence from 2002 to 2005 said that UK had completely rejected the torturing policy. He further said that they were never connivance on torturing policy and whole world including Pakistan was knew about UK policy in this regard.
However former President of Pakistan said that he never knew that UK govt ever said that ISI should not torture British citizens.
Meanwhile, talking to private TV channel the former president said that he thinks NRO is wrong and he issued the ordinance on the say of Chaudhry brothers and now he realizes his mistake.
He said that NRO was agreement with PPP, Benazir Bhutto that she would not come before elections and cases against her would be finished but BB came before elections and was assassinated. He said that Baitullah Mehsud is the assassinator and everyone knows that.
He further said that Pakistan is confronted with internal and external challenges. He said that joint efforts would have to be made to tackle terrorism and extremism. He said that interest of Pakistan would have to be safeguarded.
Answering to question he replied that he had form a party and is being activated. He said that he would come back to Pakistan very soon. He said that Altaf Hussain is a good leader, Imran Khan is a good friend.
Answering to question Pervez Musharraf said that Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is a good person and wanted to resolve all issues including Kashmir dispute.
