Taipei: Nine people were killed and 12 others injured in a fire that broke out in a pub in central Taiwan on Sunday, police said.
Initial investigations showed that the fire may have been caused when a dancer was using sparklers during a show at the pub in Taichung city. It was stated one of the worst fire incident in several years in Taiwan.
Fire tenders rushed to the spot and swiftly extinguished the blaze, but they discovered nine charred bodies from the spot. Twelve people were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police have detained the dancer and the pub owner for questioning.
