Islamabad: As many as 5,000 personnel of Islamabad police will be educated about protection of child and human rights during their professional duty and their skills will be further polished as well as attitudes to be improved in order to enable them for dealing effectively and comfortably while working with communities and children.
As per main theme of program for “Police Training and Capacity Building on Human and Child Rights Project”, the awards ceremony for the 4th batch of Master trainer’ was held at Police Lines Headquarters.
This project is supported by the European Commission, Plan Sweden and implemented by Plan Pakistan and SPARC. Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, Executive Director Parliamentarians commission for Human rights & Advisor National Assembly standing committee on Human Rights was the chief guest of the ceremony.
This training is aimed to demonstrate that given an effective human and child rights management mechanism, meaningful knowledge resources, and effective training delivery, it is possible to improve the capacity of policemen and -women to perform their duties without violating the fundamental rights of
individuals in conflict with the law. The implementation of this training aimed to show that it is possible for the police to regain the respect of the citizens by adopting a right-based approach and sensitive behaviour.
SSP (Headquarters) Zubair Hashmi in his vote of thanks expressed contentment over the exchange of information and discussion over the 5-day session. He impressed upon personal attention on human rights especially with regard to Pakistan police and said that Islamabad police should become a model for the rest of the country’s police force.
Chief Guest Chaudhry Muhammad Shafique, Executive Director, Parliamentarians commission for Human rights & Advisor National Assembly standing committee on Human Rights distributed certificates amongst the trainee’s and in his address expressed his joy at the initiative taken by the two partner organizations to educate Islamabad Police and appreciated the
receptiveness of the police force towards the training.
He stressed the adoption of rights based approach for governance at all levels. He stressed upon the need to educate all sectors of society and implement the learning’s in the everyday life of the police to make them more tolerant towards criminals and civilians in accordance with the human rights laws. He gave his full support to the project and any future endeavours with the same Country Director Plan Haider W Yaqub appreciated the efforts of Plan and SPARC in inculcating the idea of child and human rights in the minds of the Master Trainers.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Fakhir, National Trainee Manager SPARC, expressed gratitude towards all the participants who actively took part in all the training activities. He also appreciated the efforts of capacity building shown by the trainees and showed full faith in them to formalize their plans and strategies to further train more officials of the police force.
Participants were also given a chance to express their views on the trainings conducted. They appreciated the efforts of the trainers who encouraged them to work in teams and said that they would try to implement the learning in their practical lives. The trainees expressed their gratitude and happiness over the initiative taken by SPARC and Plan Pakistan. They reinforced their commitment and support to further improve the program and promised to work towards making the society more understanding and tolerant.
It is to mention that National Commission for Child Welfare and Development and Islamabad Police are the equal partners in the project implementation. During training the police was given knowledge regarding Human & Child Rights and how best to protect the citizens and; create awareness regarding the issues. The target audience for this project is the Islamabad Capital Territory Police, the National Child Protection Centre (NCPC) and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education.
