Manila: Three soldiers were killed and four others were wounded after they were ambushed by communist rebels in Asipulo, Ifugao, in the eastern Philippines, police said.
Senior Superintendent Laurence Mombael, Ifugao police director, said a platoon of Army soldiers led by 2nd Lieutenant Mark Anthony Bernardino was patrolling Barangay Caoayan in Asipulo.
When they were attacked by a group of New People’s Army rebels led by Casimiro Bingayan. Mombael said reports reaching the police showed that some rebels were wounded after a back-up team from the Philippine Army pursued and engaged them in a firefight.
