Lahore: United States Senator John Kerry has said that Raymond Davis case would be transparently investigated in the US courts.
He said this in a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday evening and assured Pakistanis that Davis would be tried in the US courts, The News Tribe correspondent in Lahore reported.
The senator said, “I am not here to discuss the Davis case and legal US experts are deeply overseeing the case. I am here to grow mutual understanding between Pakistan and US.”
Kerry said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party leaders Rehman Malik and Fozia Wahab have also confirmed that Davis is a diplomat. He said according to US documents Davis is a member of technical staff of the US Embassy in Islamabad.
He said that bilateral ties between both the countries are strong and one case could not affect the relationships. He said US respects Pakistani laws but Pakistan should respect international laws that have been made by international organization not by the US government.
The US senator also expressed deep sorrow and grief over the loss of precious Pakistani lives and termed the incident tragic.
