Drink a glass of beetroot juice daily to control high blood pressure, suggests a British study.
Beetroot juice contains nitrate – also found in green leafy vegetables – which appears to reduce blood pressure in 60 minutes, according to the study by Barts and the London School of Medicine and the Peninsula Medical School.
Vegetable rich diets are known to provide protective effects to health due to their antioxidant vitamin content.
“Our research suggests that drinking beetroot juice or consuming other nitrate-rich vegetables might be a simple way to maintain a healthy cardiovascular system,” BBC News online edition quoted researcher Amrita Ahluwalia as saying.
“It might also be an additional approach that one could take in the modern day battle against rising blood pressure,” Ahluwalia added.
