Doha: International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday banned Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Aamir for at least five years as they were found guilty of corruption.
Head of ICC’s Anti Corruption tribunal Michel Ballof announced this in a press conference in Doha, Qatar. He said Butt was banned for 10 years, five of which were suspended punishment. Amir was banned for five years while Asif was suspended for seven years, two of which are suspended.
Ballof said purpose of these sanctions are to make international cricket free of corruption. He said Aamir and Asif have admitted that they delivered no balls intentionally.
Former Pakistani captain Moin Khan said that careers of Salman Butt and Muhammad Asif have almost finished but Aamir could play after five years because he is young.
