Karachi: Investigation into the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam have led to the discovery of the involvement of several officials of the federal commerce ministry and a top level minister of the federal cabinet.
Sources in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said they have found clues that link the bureaucrats and the minister with the high profile investigation being led by the country’s Supreme court.
“Three high officials of more than 19 grade found involve in this scam and they illegally acquired a major chunk of the stolen of huge amount”, sources claimed.
The minister’s alleged involvement surfaced when the investigators linked his account with the money also.
“The entire sum that went missing of the 900 million made its way into the minister’s bank account which is a private bank”, sources claimed.
The investigators of FIA sounded helpless to pursue the case effectively since they are under pressure from their high-ups.
“We have been told clearly to removed or make disappear the names of these officials and ministers in our final report which will be sent as part of a summary to the supreme court”, sources alleged.
The investigation of the NICL has lost its progress because officials of FIA are trying to displace the lanes of those involved while also trying to justify the missing money in some accounts.
On the other hand a joint investigation team comprising of officials from Lahore and Karachi raided the house and office of Ameen Qasim Dada and sealed both places.
According to details a team of FIA Lahore, including two members, came to Karachi and reported to office of FIA Karachi. After getting permeation joint team of FIA, comprising over personnel FIA Karachi and Lahore, thoroughly searched the house located at Defence and office of the alleged culprit.
“We have made no arrest nor any thing found in the search operation”, sources said.
Sources claimed that they had received information that Ameen Qasim Dada had fled abroad via Afghanistan.
“The record showed that he came to Pakistan on 10th of July 2010 and never flied abroad again, means he is in Karachi”, FIA sources claimed and added that “We also contacted to Interpol, as we received information that he had fled aboard, and are trying to issue red warrant”.
FIA has already got Dada’s name on the exit control list (ECL) while letters have been dispatched to the Passport and Immigration authorities in Islamabad for the cancellation of his passport.
Sources told that the FIA had conducted several raids for the arrest of Amin Qasim Dada, adding that sooner or later, they would be successful.
FIA has arrested two of persons Naveed Hussain Zaidi and Gardazy while Jawaid Syed, Khawaja Akbar and Khalid Anwar are out of country. “There red warrant will be issued soon”.
Sources said that DG FIA Sindh had been asked to provide Waseem Ahmed’s arrival and departure records from Karachi after his appointment as DG FIA and the distance between the houses of Waseem Ahmed and Amin Qasim Dada.
Confirming that a questionnaire had been received from the Additional Director-General Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, the Director, Karachi, Moazzam Jah Ansari, said that he would soon file his answers.
It may recalled that FIA had filed a case in which they claimed that a man, identified as Khalid Anwar, was given power of attorney for 20 acres of land owned by the Hashwani group some time back.
The FIA accused Anwar, who is both a Pakistan and an American citizen, of selling 10 acres of this land to the NICL in August 2009 before he managed to leave for the United States.
According to the FIA, Anwar sold each acre for Rs90 million, which is twice the actual value of the land as each acre actually costs around Rs45 million, resulted in a loss worth Rs450 million to the national exchequer.
