KARACHI: At least 600 citizens of Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, were arrested on Monday for violating the ban on pillion riding.
The ban was imposed on the night between Sunday and Monday as the law enforcement agencies failed to control the law and order situation in the city.
More than 100 arrested people were presented before various local courts.
Judicial Magistrate East released 12 people while various other courts imposed fines of Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 on the violators.
Twelve accused, arrested from Korangi, were presented before the court of Shahid Ali Memon, Judicial Magistrate East, but all of them were released under Section 63 of Pakistan Penal Code, as the investigation officer failed to present the notification of ban on pillion ridding.
Families of the arrested people were seen disturbed. The arrested accused said that police arrested them when they were going to their offices, unaware of the imposition of ban which was imposed late at night.
