KARACHI: At least 14 people were gunned down and several injured in different parts of Karachi, Pakistan’s commercial hub, as the tension erupted in the city within last since Thursday evening.
In the first incident a Pakistani journalist of a private news TV channel was gunned down while going home from work in the limits of Super Market police station, Liaquatabad Town, Karachi.
he was intercepted by unidentified attackers in front of Super Market police and opened fire on him from a point blank-range, leaving him seriously injured. He was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his bullet wounds.
In the second incident, Deputy Secretary General of Awami National Party (ANP), Basheer Jan was shot and injured while his two security guards were gunned down near Hasan Square, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town.
Spokesman of ANP, Qadri Khan told The News Tribe, a UK based bilingual news website, that the incident took place near Hasan Square close to City District Government Karachi office when unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire at his vehicle. As a result, Bashir Jan was received severe injuries while his two security guards were killed in the incident.
The bodies and injured were rushed to Liaquat National Hospital Karachi.
Eight people including a seven year-old girl was gunned down in different parts of Orangi Town.
Three of the bodies were shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center and 0ther three were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Karachi.
In the fourth incident, unidentified armed assailant riding a bike targeted Mutahida Qaumi Movement leader, Shoaib Bukhari’s nephew Hammad in Liaquatabad no 10 and killed him on the spot.
In the fifth incident, a youth Taimoor was gunned down in New Karachi.
In the sixth incident, Anwar Raza, a bank manager, was shot dead in Mosa Lane.
Meanwhile, more than a dozen people were injured in shooting.
Sporadic incidents of Ariel firing were reported in different areas of the city including Banaras, Orangi, Kati Pahari and Manghopir Road, PIB colony, Korangi and Liaquatabad.
