BEIJING: At least 10 people were killed and four others injured in a hotel fire in China’s central province of Hunan on Thursday.
Fire broke out through the tiny Xinawan Hotel in Yuelu district of the provincial capital city of Changsha, a state-run news agency reported.
Fire tenders were mobilized to the site to extinguish the fire. Â After hectic efforts of an hour they managed to put out the fire and evacuate about 50 people.
Six victims died on the spot while four more breathed their last after being admitted to a nearby hospital.
The injured and bodies were shifted to nearby hospitals. Most of the victims suffocated to death since hotel windows had been firmly shut because of the bitterly cold weather outside.
The cause of the massive fire is still under investigation, local safety authorities said.
