Karachi: An amount of Rs 4 billion has been embezzled through a fake account in a local private bank, The New Tribe has learnt.
Sources privy to the matter said that the embezzled amount was used to procure sugar from the Trading Corporation Pakistan, adding that a fake account 4499447100009702 by a client number of 0244994497 was opened in the bank in the name of a vegetable vendor Hussain Ali, a resident of Korangi, carrying CNIC number 4220-0454832-7. The account was opened through an officer Muhammad Arif.
The accountholder, Hussain Ali, father of two, lives in small house measuring 60 yards. He earns his bread and butter by selling vegetables on a pushcart.
The sources told this scribe that even Ali Hussain was not aware of the fact that a huge amount has been deposited in an account, opened in his name and identity card number.
They said that an incomplete residential address was written on the bank form.
The opening of this fake account arises some questions that from where this huge amount was brought and if the money was spent to purchase sugar from the TCP, has the sugar brought to the market or not.
When contacted, the MCB spokesman said that there were strict rules and regulations in the bank to open an account. He said that there is no question of opening fake account in the bank.
