Lahore: Funeral prayer of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer was offered at Governor’s House amid tight security.The prayer was led by Allama Afzal Chisti.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Interior Minister  Rehman Malik, Law Minister Babar Awan, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Secretary General PPP Jahangir Badar, Population Welfare Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qayim Ali Shah, Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Foreign Mininster Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Labor and Manpower Minister  Kurshid Shah, PML-N leaders Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi and Nadeem Kamran, PML-Q (like-Minded) leader Khurshid Mehmood Kusuri, Corp Commander Lahore, MQM leaders Babar Khan Ghori, Hyder Abbas Rizvi, Raza Haroon, former governor Punjab Ghulam Mustafa Kharr and large number of the PPP activists  attended the funeral prayers of the slain Governor.
Activists of the PPP chanted slogans against the PML-N compelling Speaker Punjab Assembly to leave the venue, while top leadership of the PML-N stayed away from the event due to security concerns.
Strict security arrangements were taken on the occasion as large number of Police and Rangers personnel were deployed in and around Governor’s House.
The Prime Minister came to Governor House to attend the funeral by driving his car himself.
Lahore police claimed to have arrested two suspected people from outside Governor’s House.
Later, Taseer was laid to rests in  Cavalry Ground graveyard. His body was taken to the graveyard by a helicopter.
