ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday gave Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani a 72-hour deadline to accept or reject the PML-N’s agenda for pulling out the country from the prevailing crises.
Addressing a press conference after chairing PML-N’s Central Organizing Committee, Nawaz Sharif said that the PML-N COC finalised a broad and issue-based agenda for pulling out the country from the prevailing crises. He said that if accepted the government had to implement the agenda within 45-days.
He added that if the government did not implement the agenda in letters and spirits by February 20, the PML-N would be compelled to part ways with PPP in Punjab.
He said the agenda is not of the PML-N but it is “people’s agenda.”
“If the government did not impalement the agenda in letters and spirits then PML-N will contact other opposition group for implementing it,” he added.
Spelling out the key points of the ‘agenda’ Nawaz said that 30 percent decrease in government expenses was top of the agenda. He demanded that the recent increase in petroleum products’ prices should be withdrawn immediately and effective measures should be taken to eradicate corruption, which must include ousting the corrupt ministers and officials from the government. Government must stop patronizing the corrupt elements and able and talented people must be appointed in Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs) to turn them around.
Nawaz further demanded that Supreme Court’s decision on NRO should be implemented. The agenda included reorganization of Election Commission of Pakistan to ensure free and fair elections. He said that the government should take action against those involved NLC, Sugar, Steel Mills, NIC, submarine and other scandals.
He further demanded of the government to form an independent Accountability Commission, adding that loan written off on political consideration must be recovered.
Nawaz urged the government to ensure integrity and soveriginity of the government.
Meanwhile sources in PML-N told The News Tribe that the party had decided would not, on its own, introduce a no-confidence motion against the prime minister. It was also decided that the PML-N would adopt a very strong and hawkish approach against the policies of the government, especially in the parliament.
Nawaz apprised party leaders about the meeting between Prime Minister Gilani and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
