With reports are getting higher about Apple’s cheap iPhone models for emerging markets, what Samsung will do to maintain its position as smartphone category leader in 2013?
Samsung has revealed an array of devices at Mobile World Congress going on in Barcelona, Spain showing its strength to cater needs of different segments.
The devices include Galaxy Note 8.0, Galaxy Fame a 3.5 inch midrange smartphone, Galaxy Grand with 5 inch screen and dual SIM, Galaxy Young with 3.27 inch possibly for kids and Galaxy Express with 4.5 inch screen but cheaper than Galaxy S3.
But the eyes are actually on Galaxy S4, the flagship smartphone of Samsung for 2013.
To compete with Apple’s reported cheap iPhone models whether iPhone 6 or iPhone Mini or iPhone Math, Samsung needs to be highly careful in making pricing strategy of Galaxy S4.
Galaxy S3 was introduced with $199 for 16 GB model, $249 for 32 GB model and $599 (16Gb) and $649 (32 GB) for non-contract ones. But as release date of Galaxy S4 gets near, the prices of Galaxy S3 have dropped from $49 to $99.
Similar price strategy is likely to be repeated by Samsung though it needs to be careful in crafting contract-based and non-contract based pricing for Galaxy S4 keeping in view of cheaper iPhone series this year.
It would be wiser for Samsung to lower down its price a bit to make its most anticipated device competitive throughout the year.
