Court to Decide on Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi’s Sentence Suspension in Iddat Case Today

Islamabad: The district and sessions court is set to announce its verdict on Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi’s pleas seeking suspension of their sentence in the iddat case today at 3 pm.

Details reveal that the court reserved its decision a few days ago regarding the suspension of sentences for Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case. The court will decide at 3 PM today whether the former Prime Minister will receive any relief in this case.

District Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka will announce the decision on the appeals against the sentence in the Iddat marriage case. Currently, Imran Khan is imprisoned in Adiala Jail solely due to the sentence in this case. The PTI founder has already been acquitted in the Toshakhana and Cipher cases and is out on bail in the £190 million reference and the May 9 cases.

The FIA has questioned Imran Khan twice in Adiala Jail for allegedly tweeting a state-opposing video, but no new case has been registered in this matter so far. No new case has been filed against Imran Khan at the moment. If the decision in the Iddat marriage case is in their favor, there are possibilities for the release of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.

Govt. Plans to Prolong Imran Khan’s Imprisonment with New Cases

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, confirmed that the federal government is planning to lodge new cases against the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, to extend his stay in prison.

Speaking on a private news channel, Rana Sanaullah emphasized the government’s intent to utilize all legal means to delay Khan’s release. He claimed that Imran Khan’s narrative and political agenda is aimed at destabilizing the country and spreading chaos and anarchy, “that’s why the government’s effort will be to keep the PTI founder in custody for as long as possible.”, he said.

Sanaullah’s statements came as he responded to questions regarding government strategies to prolong Khan’s imprisonment. He reiterated the government’s stance to act within the bounds of the Constitution and law, denying any intention to keep Imran Khan jailed “forcefully.”

Despite acknowledging the public mandate received by PTI in the general elections, Sanaullah criticized Iman for violating this mandate through violent protests, including attacks on courts and allegedly orchestrating the May 9 riots.
