PTI Accuses Establishment of Delaying Imran Khan’s Release

Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has asserted that state institutions are succumbing to pressure from the establishment to prolong the detention of its leader, Imran Khan. This allegation stems from the postponement of the ruling on the Iddat case, which dashes hopes for Khan’s prompt release.

During a press briefing in Islamabad, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan voiced frustration over the delayed verdict. Hasan claimed that the establishment’s influence on state entities is mounting, reacting to the Islamabad sessions court’s decision to defer the ruling on the Iddat case.

Despite Khan securing bail in multiple cases, Hasan expressed concerns that the delayed ruling and potential new charges could extend his imprisonment further. He labeled the iddat and cipher cases as “baseless” and warned of potential additional cases against the PTI founder.

The Islamabad court had reserved its verdict the previous week, but District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand sought recusal from the case due to repeated expressions of no-confidence by Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband and the petitioner.

Hasan accused the establishment of orchestrating a “murder of justice” over the past two years, alleging that this has led to Imran Khan’s prolonged incarceration. He drew parallels with past military rule, claiming that the undue influence of a single individual is jeopardizing the state.

Hasan also highlighted additional cases against PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, suggesting these were intended to prevent his release from prison.

The PTI spokesperson clarified that the party’s conflict is not with the military as an institution but with an individual wielding undue influence.

Imran Khan, who has been in jail since August last year following his conviction in the Toshakhana case, has faced numerous legal challenges, including those related to the Iddat case marriage and cipher. Although granted bail in the Toshakhana case, he remains imprisoned due to other convictions.
