Perth: The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of south-eastern Australia, with dangerous winds forecast to hit Victoria, New South Wales, Wilsons Promontory, Gippsland, and the ACT from Thursday evening through Friday morning.
The warning covers areas including Victoria’s eastern ranges, the southern part of the Great Dividing Range, and the Blue Mountains in NSW. Other regions expected to be impacted include Victoria’s Surf Coast, Wilsons Promontory, Gippsland, and south-eastern NSW, including parts of the Illawarra.
Winds are expected to average 85-105 km/h in alpine areas above 1900 metres, with peak gusts reaching up to 125 km/h. Lower-altitude regions could experience winds between 60 and 70 km/h on Friday morning, potentially leading to fallen trees, power outages, and hazardous driving conditions.
The intense winds are expected to coincide with rising temperatures, including a forecasted high of 30°C in Sydney on Friday, prompting fire danger warnings across the region.
