Karachi: Two-time ICC event winner Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as the mentor for the Dolphins team in the upcoming Champions One-Day Cup, which will take place this month. The tournament, scheduled from September 12 to 29 at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, will feature five teams: Stallions, Lions, Panthers, Wolves, and Dolphins. Before Sarfaraz, Shoaib Malik was appointed as the mentor for Stallions, Misbah-ul-Haq for Wolves, Waqar Younis for Lions, and Saqlain Mushtaq for Panthers.
The Dolphins team will practice and train at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Center in Karachi. Sarfaraz Ahmed, who has represented Pakistan in 54 Test matches, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20 internationals, has amassed a total of 6,164 runs, along with 315 catches and 56 stumpings. He has captained Pakistan in all three formats, leading the team to victory in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2006 Under-19 World Cup. Under his leadership, Pakistan also reached the number one spot in the ICC T20 rankings. Notably, Sarfaraz was the first Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman to score a century in a World Cup.
On being appointed as the mentor for the Dolphins, Sarfaraz said, “Becoming the mentor for a top-tier team like the Dolphins is a new experience for me. I am excited to learn and further develop my skills as a cricket professional. What makes this role even more interesting and challenging is that I will also be participating as a player in this tournament. My passion and determination to win every match are as strong as ever. My role will be to support the captain, players, and coaching staff in enhancing their abilities.”
