Mother Charged with Child Abuse After Newborn Found Abandoned in Melbourne Suburb

Melbourne: A 25-year-old mother has been charged with serious child abuse offenses after her newborn baby was discovered with life-threatening injuries outside a home in Dandenong North, Melbourne.

The baby boy was found early on August 30 and rushed to Monash Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The mother, identified as Irene, was also taken to the hospital under police guard and has since been charged with conduct endangering life and recklessly causing injury.

Housemates of the mother were reportedly unaware of her pregnancy until the baby’s father began banging on their door the night the infant was found.

Irene has been released on bail and is due to appear in Dandenong Magistrates Court on December 5. The investigation is ongoing.
