Sydney: The Sydney Metro is set to improve travel times with a new initiative to speed up the closure of train doors. Currently, doors take 60 seconds to close, but this will soon be reduced to 45 seconds at most stations, helping to expedite passenger movement and reduce delays.
The closure speed will be adjusted based on station activity. For example, at busy transfer hubs like Chatswood, the doors will close more slowly to accommodate the higher number of passengers switching lines. In contrast, at less crowded stations like Waterloo, the doors will close more quickly.
This change is expected to slightly reduce the 15-minute travel time between Central Station and Chatswood. The Sydney Metro, which runs between Sydenham and Tallawong, has already proven popular, transporting over 1.4 million passengers, with an average of 210,000 trips per day.
With further expansions planned to the west, southwest, and towards Western Sydney Airport, these efficiency improvements are part of broader efforts to enhance the overall Metro experience for Sydney commuters.
