Kyiv: In one of the deadliest attacks of the ongoing conflict, a Russian missile strike has killed at least 51 people and left hundreds wounded in the Ukrainian city of Poltava. The attack, which struck a military training facility and a nearby hospital, marks a grim escalation in the two-and-a-half-year war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the strike, vowing to hold Russia accountable, revealing that 51 people died in the strike while the number of injured reached 271, and many were potentially stuck under the rubble of the destroyed building.
The international community has reacted strongly to the attack. U.S. President Joe Biden denounced the “deplorable attack” and reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to providing military aid to Ukraine, including essential air defense systems.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy described the strike as a “sickening act of aggression,” while German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock condemned the brutality of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
