Melbourne: A Melbourne police officer is set to undergo surgery after being allegedly ambushed and stabbed during a fake emergency call in Cranbourne West. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on George Frederick Road, where officers responded to reports of an aggravated burglary.
Upon arrival, a constable with just 18 months of service was confronted by a man in the driveway. The suspect allegedly stabbed the officer in the thigh with a 13-centimeter paring knife. The attack, captured on CCTV, reveals the constable shouting in pain, “Oh f—, I’ve been stabbed, ah f—,” while his partner administered first aid.
The injured officer was quickly surrounded by fellow officers who provided immediate assistance. He is expected to undergo surgery due to the severity of his injuries.
The attacker has been identified as 18-year-old Moses Thurairajasingam, a mentally ill individual. Thurairajasingam allegedly lured police to his home and then stabbed an officer, hoping to provoke them into shooting him. The court heard that disturbing footage from body cameras and CCTV captured the attack.
Thurairajasingam, diagnosed with schizophrenia, had earlier asked his sister if stabbing a police officer would lead to him being shot. She dismissed it as a rant, unaware it was part of a plan. He made a false report to police about an intruder at his Cranbourne West home, leading to the incident.
Thurairajasingam faces multiple charges, including assaulting an emergency worker and making a false report.
