Kuala Lumpur: Hong Kong’s pacer Ayush Shukla has become the third player in cricket history to bowl four maiden overs in a single T20 international innings. The remarkable achievement occurred on Saturday at the Bayuemas Oval during a match against Mongolia.
Shukla’s performance, which included four maiden overs and one wicket, was instrumental in Hong Kong’s dominant display. His final figures were 4-4-0-1, making him the newest member of an exclusive club previously occupied by Canada’s Saad Bin Zafar and New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson. Zafar achieved this feat in 2021 against Panama, while Ferguson accomplished it earlier this year during the T20 World Cup against Papua New Guinea with figures of 4-4-0-3.
Opening the bowling, Shukla delivered a wicket maiden to dismiss Mongolia’s Bat-yalalt Namsrai and then bowled 18 consecutive dot balls. This stellar performance adds to his growing reputation in international cricket.
At just 21 years old, Shukla has played 34 T20Is and has taken 29 wickets with an economy rate of 8.62. He had previously shown his potential with a notable spell against Cambodia in 2023 and made headlines in the 2022 Asia Cup by dismissing India captain Rohit Sharma.
In addition to Shukla’s historic performance, the match featured other notable records: the third-fastest chase in T20I history and the third-lowest total ever recorded in T20Is.
