Rome: In Italy, a thief who broke into a house for robbery got so engrossed in reading a book that he was caught. According to foreign media, the incident occurred in the capital city of Rome, where a thief who entered a house was apprehended.
Reports indicate that the thief initially entered the house with the intention of stealing, but stopped when he saw a book on the table. Instead of committing the robbery, he became absorbed in reading the book. The thief was so engrossed in the book that he lost awareness of his surroundings.
Meanwhile, the 71-year-old homeowner woke up and was astonished to find a stranger reading a book in his house. At this point, the thief also realized what was happening but was caught while attempting to escape through the balcony.
According to media reports, the 38-year-old thief was reading a book about Homer’s Iliad. When the news was published in the local newspaper, the book’s author expressed delight and said that he wanted to send the thief a copy of the book as a gift because he was arrested while reading it. The author added that he hopes the thief completes reading the book.
