Imran Khan’s Life is in No Threat, Jail is the Safest Place in Pakistan: Khawaja Asif

Islamabad: In response to Imran Khan’s recent claims of his life being in danger, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has dismissed these concerns, asserting that there is no threat to Khan’s life, as jail is currently the safest place in Pakistan.

During an interview on a private TV channel, Khawaja Asif addressed a question regarding Imran Khan’s statement about his life being in danger and whether the government was committed to providing him security while incarcerated. Asif emphasized that Khan, currently incarcerated, has no reason to worry about his safety.

“I believe the safest place in Pakistan is jail, and since Imran Khan is there, he should be assured that his life is under no threat,” Khawaja Asif remarked.

The Defence Minister further commented on the political implications of the recent postponement of PTI’s Tarnol rally, suggesting that the decision has politically damaged the party. He implied that PTI was avoiding potential political challenges by canceling the event.

Furthermore, Asif hinted at internal tensions within PTI, mentioning an emerging confrontation between Aleema Khan and Bushra Bibi, with Aleema Khan allegedly supporting his statements. He also touched upon the connection between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the establishment, implying that PTI’s initial outreach to the establishment has now led to a complex relationship.

Khawaja Asif emphasized that the government remains unconcerned by PTI’s current struggles, pointing out the party’s ongoing difficulties in maintaining unity among its members.

It is worth noting that Imran Khan, in a recent informal conversation with the media at Adiala Jail, expressed grave concerns about his safety, citing harsh jail conditions and holding DG ISI and General Asim Munir responsible should anything happen to him. Khan also commented on the state of the nation, drawing a comparison with Bangladesh’s recent unrest, and stressed the importance of a strong military institution, warning against actions that could alienate the public from the armed forces.
