iPhone users need to be aware of a new software bug that could potentially crash their phones. TechCrunch reports that there’s a bug in iOS that causes your device to become unresponsive if you type these 4 characters (“”::).
Typing these characters into the search bar of the Settings app will crash the Springboard. Similarly, if you swipe right on your home screen and type them into the App Library search bar, your device will be affected. Activating the bug causes the Springboard to crash and then reloads your lock screen. During a test, the bug turned the screen black for a second.
Ryan Sturtz, who has extensive knowledge of iOS security, mentioned that this bug does not appear to be a major security threat. Apple has not issued any official statement about this bug or advised iPhone users to be cautious.
