A major Chinese company has expressed its desire to establish a large-scale solar panel and related equipment manufacturing plant in Pakistan. Formal discussions with the government have already taken place.
The CEO of ReneSola Pakistan stated that the Chinese organization aims to significantly promote solar energy in Pakistan by setting up this extensive solar panel manufacturing facility. The progress has been made based on the assurances provided by the government.
A team from ReneSola and ATC Group visited Islamabad in May, where they held discussions with officials from the Ministry of Industry, Power Division, and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The Chinese company was assured that it would be provided with a conducive environment for operation in Pakistan, ensuring the potential for profitable investment.
According to a report, the Chinese company has requested the Government of Pakistan to eliminate duties and sales tax on the import of machinery and other components required for solar panel manufacturing to facilitate smoother operations. The company is preparing to establish its large plant in the Port Qasim area of Karachi.
The Chinese company emphasized that if importers are allowed to continue importing solar panels duty-free, the local solar panel manufacturing industry may not thrive. Additionally, they requested an exemption from sales tax.
