Cairo: The X account of Egyptian-American comedian Bassem Youssef, known for his pro-Palestinian stance, mysteriously disappeared on Tuesday, leaving nearly 12 million followers in the dark.
In a statement on his Instagram, Youssef expressed uncertainty about the reasons behind the account’s removal and whether it would be restored. He emphasized that any other accounts posing as him on X are fake, and he does not wish to make any media statements about the situation at this time.
The disappearance of his account from the social media platform X is being attributed to his last Israel-critical post, which was in support of Palestine.
Before his account vanished, Youssef had posted a critical message addressing the accusation of antisemitism, describing it as a tactic used to stifle conversation and intimidate people. “It’s been overused and abused in order to intimidate people,” he wrote in his final post.
Bassem Youssef recently gave an interview to the British journalist Piers Morgan regarding Israel’s aggression in Gaza, which went viral. In the interview, his satirical and humorous criticism of Israel’s violence against the people of Gaza and Palestinians garnered significant attention.
It’s worth noting that the conflict between Hamas, the Palestinian resistance movement, and the Israeli military has been ongoing since October 7, 2023. During this period, Israeli bombings have resulted in the deaths of approximately 40,000 Palestinians, including a large number of women and children.
