Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced its commitment to introducing 5G services in the country by April 2025. The authority is also aiming to attract new companies through a spectrum auction to expand the market and enhance competition.
According to media reports, the PTA Chairman stated that telecom companies are currently using 265 MHz of spectrum. The PTA plans to make an additional 567 MHz of spectrum available for 5G services to provide broader bandwidth for new technology and deliver better quality services to consumers.
Hafeez Rahman mentioned that Saudi Arabia sold its spectrum at $90,000 per MHz, whereas Pakistan sold its 4G spectrum at $29 million per MHz. The PTA’s decision to keep spectrum prices low reflects its commitment to providing better services to local consumers.
He further stated that the PTA Chairman informed the meeting that the restoration of the submarine cable is underway and is expected to be completed by August 27. Despite the upgrade of internet services, no further disruptions are anticipated, ensuring improved internet services for users.
