Grozny: Russian President Vladimir Putin made a notable visit to the Muslim-majority region of Chechnya on Wednesday, his first trip to the area in 13 years. The visit attracted significant attention after a video emerged showing Putin kissing a gifted Quran and holding it close to his heart.
Upon his arrival, Putin was warmly welcomed by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. The two leaders engaged in discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, including military, trade, and economic cooperation. Their strong rapport was evident, with Kadyrov often referring to Putin as a close friend.
During his visit, Putin, accompanied by Kadyrov and the Grand Mufti of Chechnya, spent time at the Isa Prophet Mosque in Grozny. At the mosque, he was presented with a gold-encrusted Holy Quran. In a gesture of respect for the Islamic faith, Putin kissed the Quran and held it to his chest.
The Grand Mufti of Chechnya also recited a verse from Surah Al-Anfal, providing its Russian translation for the President.
