Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested prominent anchorperson Orya Maqbool Jan in Lahore on Thursday for his social media posts related to the controversial Mubarak Sani case, as confirmed by his lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq.
Jan was arrested by the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing and is currently detained at their Gulberg office. He is expected to be presented before a judicial magistrate later today. Orya Maqbool Jan will be presented before a judicial magistrate today. The lawyer expressed concerns about the arrest, stating that the FIA does not have jurisdiction over this case, and they will present strong arguments against the charges.
Orya Maqbool Jan was detained over a social media post related to the Mubarak Ahmad Sani case. The lawyer also noted that the details of the First Information Report (FIR) have not been disclosed to the defense team.
Supreme Court’s Verdict on the Mubarak Sani Case:
The Supreme Court granted bail to Mubarak Ahmad Sani, a member of the Qadiani community, in a case involving the distribution of a distorted interpretation of the Quran. The court later upheld this decision in revision petitions, leading to protests from religious groups.
Major religious parties, including JUI, JI, and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), have rejected the ruling and called on the court to reconsider its verdict.
