To Understand the Importance of a Free State, Ask the People of Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza: Army Chief

Islamabad: Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir has stated that to truly understand the significance of a free state, one should ask the people of Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza. He emphasized that it is the state’s duty to shield the public from the turmoil and chaos generated by social media.

While addressing the “Youth of Pakistan” event in the federal capital, Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir emphasized that the youth are the future of the country. He said that the sparkle in their eyes reassures him that Pakistan’s future is in safe hands.

He stressed that it is the state’s responsibility to protect the public, especially the youth, from the chaos and turmoil generated by social media. The Army Chief highlighted that knowledge is what sets a person apart from others. He reiterated that the importance of a free state can be understood by asking the people of Libya, Syria, Kashmir, and Gaza.

In his speech, General Syed Asim Munir said that the guarantee of Pakistan’s security and development lies in the strong relationship between the public, government, and military. He questioned the whereabouts of those who were promoting the narrative of Pakistan’s default.

The Army Chief reminded that as Muslims, we are prohibited from despairing, citing the Quranic verse: “Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying, ‘We believe,’ and that they will not be tested?”

To the youth, he affirmed that Pakistan’s greatest and most valuable asset is its young people, and assured them that we will not let it be wasted. Concluding his speech, General Munir recited a couplet by Allama Iqbal:

افراد کے  ہاتھوں میں ہے اقوام کی تقدیر

ہر فرد ہے ملت کے مقدر کا ستارہ

“In the hands of individuals lies the fate of nations,
Every person is a star in the destiny of the nation.”

Following his address, General Asim Munir responded to questions from the youth, stating the army’s position. In response to a question about the unrest in Parachinar, the Army Chief urged tribes to come together to resolve both local and peripheral disputes.

He noted that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have stood as a solid wall against terrorism alongside the Pakistan Army for 22 years. He expressed his belief that Allah will grant us a decisive victory over terrorism.
