Yazd: A tragic bus accident in Yazd, Iran, has claimed the lives of over 32 Pakistani pilgrims and left 23 others injured, with 14 of the injuries classified as serious.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night when the bus, part of a convoy transporting Shia pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq, overturned and caught fire due to an alleged brake failure. The convoy, led by Syed Athar Shah Shamsi, consisted of two buses and 110 pilgrims. One of the buses reached the city of Yazd in Iran, where it reportedly experienced brake failure.
The ill-fated bus was carrying 51 pilgrims from various regions of Pakistan, including Larkana, Khairpur Mirs, and Kandhkot, along with two drivers. The convoy was en route to Iraq for Arbaeen, a significant religious commemoration in Karbala.
According to sources, most of the pilgrims on the bus were from Larkana. The second bus, part of the same convoy, was in the Ramdan area near the Gwadar-Iran border and was only a few hours away from the unfortunate bus that crashed in Yazd.
Muhammad Ali Malekzadeh, a local emergency official, reported that the death toll might rise as rescue operations continue. The survivors are currently receiving medical attention in Iran, and many are in critical condition.
