Victoria:Â Lara Secondary College in Victoria has made cricket a primary subject within its school curriculum. This decision reflects the sport’s deep-rooted legacy and cultural significance in Australia, where cricket has been a celebrated part of the national identity for decades.
The introduction of cricket as a formal subject, rather than just an extracurricular activity, marks a significant shift in how the sport is approached in the education system. This initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Cricket Victoria and the Academy Movement, aimed at embedding cricket education into the classroom setting.
Under the new curriculum, 9th and 10th grade students will have the option to take cricket-focused electives, while 11th and 12th graders can work towards a certification in Sports and Recreation. The program will also provide specialized cricket training for students up to 7th grade, covering essential areas such as umpiring, coaching, sports psychology, sports strapping and first aid.
The Academy Movement’s goal is to enhance cricket education across Victoria’s schools, nurturing a new generation of cricket enthusiasts and professionals.
