Karachi: Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, announced that a nationwide shutter-down strike will take place on August 28 in protest against expensive electricity, heavy bills, anti-people agreements with IPPs, and oppressive taxes on the salaried class and traders. Additionally, a massive public outreach and membership campaign will be launched across the country starting September 1.
Speaking at an important meeting and large gathering of leaders and officials at Idara Noor Haq, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman stated that Jamaat-e-Islami will organize and mobilize the public, especially the youth, under a national agenda and public charter. He emphasized that there are 32 days left in the agreement with the government, and if the public does not receive relief as promised, a long march towards Islamabad will be announced.
He further added that the government will not be allowed to escape its responsibilities, and the pursuit will continue. He praised the efforts, activism, and perseverance of the party workers, acknowledging the successes achieved through sit-ins in Rawalpindi and Karachi, but noted that much work remains to be done. He urged the workers to prepare for a larger movement and struggle.
