NAB Files New Toshakhana Reference Against Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi

Islamabad: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a new Toshakhana reference against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, and former First Lady, Bushra Bibi.

Investigating Officer Mohsin Haroon and Case Officer Waqar ul Hassan filed the reference in the Islamabad Accountability Court. The new Toshakhana reference consists of two volumes.

The Registrar of the Accountability Court will review the reference, after which it will be sent to the administrative judge. The judge will then decide whether the case will be heard in their court or transferred to another.

It’s noteworthy that Nasir Javed Rana was already hearing the case related to the £190 million, in which both Imran Khan and his wife were arrested on July 13 and remained in NAB custody for 37 days.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has barred the trial court from announcing the final verdict in the £190 million case.

The IHC halted the trial court from issuing its final decision in the £190 million case on a petition filed by Imran Khan.

A division bench consisting of Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb heard the case along with the Registrar Office’s objections.

The petitioner’s lawyers, Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, appeared before the judges.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that there are 35 witnesses in the reference against the PTI founder, with the last witness currently being cross-examined. They further mentioned that the PTI founder was arrested within the premises of IHC in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust (£190 million) case.

According to the petition, NAB initially filed a reference against eight accused persons.

Barrister Salman stated that, according to NAB, the National Crime Agency (NCA) seized £190 million. NAB’s allegation is that when the petitioner was the Prime Minister, he facilitated the transfer of the £190 million. He argued that the money was deposited into the Supreme Court’s account instead of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Salman Safdar added that they approached the trial court to request records of the NAB Executive Board meeting, but the trial court rejected the request.

The trial judge provided surprising reasons, as informed by the lawyer to the court.

The court has issued a notice to NAB, seeking a response by August 20.

It is worth noting that on August 16, former Prime Minister Imran Khan approached the IHC to halt the proceedings of the £190 million case.
