Rawalpindi: Imran Khan alleges Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed might be made a witness against him in exchange for immunity.
In a startling revelation from Adiala Jail, former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has claimed that Lieutenant General (Retd) Faiz Hameed is being pressured to testify against him in exchange for immunity.
During an informal conversation with reporters, Imran Khan alleged that the recent developments surrounding General Faiz’s arrest are part of a broader strategy to shift his case to a military court. “It’s clear that all other charges against me have been dropped,” Khan stated, “but this drama around Faiz Hameed’s arrest seems designed to create a new case against me in a military court.”
Khan suggested that there are efforts to coerce something from General Faiz. “I didn’t have relationships with other commanders; I only knew that General Bajwa told me Faiz was the most competent general,” he remarked. He expressed disbelief at the narrative suggesting that General Faiz orchestrated the events of May 9, stating, “If Faiz truly ordered my abduction on May 9, then arrest him.”
Addressing claims that General Faiz was allegedly issuing directives to Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan dismissed these as fabrications. He further accused former Chief of Army Staff General Bajwa of betrayal, alleging that Bajwa conspired with Nawaz Sharif to remove General Faiz from his position. “Where am I supposed to protest when I’m being abducted and dragged away?” Khan questioned.
“I’m not worried if General Faiz testifies against me because I’ve done nothing wrong,” he asserted. “My only statement was that General Faiz had been negotiating with the Taliban for three years.”
He elaborated that the purpose of these negotiations, carried out with the support of General Faiz and the Afghan government, was to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan. He emphasized that he had kept the cabinet fully informed about these efforts. Concluding his remarks, Khan warned that there is a fear within certain quarters that if Justice Qazi Faez Isa is removed, the truth about electoral manipulation might be exposed.
