Islamabad: The government on Saturday leveled grave accusations against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, alleging that he orchestrated a conspiracy to destabilize the nation in collaboration with retired General Faiz Hameed and other influential figures. Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that the ongoing investigation against General Hameed, already embroiled in court martial proceedings, would be broadened to implicate additional co-conspirators.
During a press conference, Aurangzeb underscored the military’s commitment to internal accountability, assuring that thorough and transparent investigations were underway. She accused Imran Khan of plotting with the ex-spymaster and his associates to sow chaos and division within Pakistan, hinting that the investigation’s net would be cast wider in the days ahead.
Aurangzeb made it clear that no one would be exempt from scrutiny, subtly pointing to former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, who has been accused by the PML-N of bolstering the PTI government.
These explosive allegations surfaced after Imran Khan openly acknowledged his close ties with General Faiz, asserting that the general’s transfer to the Peshawar Corps was part of a broader conspiracy aimed at toppling his government.
Khan has repeatedly accused former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of masterminding the scheme under the influence of Nawaz Sharif. He renewed his demand for a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9, alleging that the establishment was hesitant to pursue the matter.
Meanwhile, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui indicated a hardening of his party’s stance, stating that they would no longer seek dialogue with the PTI unless the latter displayed a genuine commitment to resolving political disputes through negotiation rather than involving the military.
Siddiqui emphasized that any talks would only be considered if the PTI approached with a sincere intent to address political issues, signaling a shift in the coalition’s approach to the ongoing political impasse.
