£190 Million Case: Islamabad High Court Bars Trial Court from Announcing Verdict

Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has barred the trial court from announcing a verdict in the £190 million reference against PTI founder Imran Khan until Wednesday.

According to the report, a division bench consisting of Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Babar Sattar heard the petition along with objections from the Registrar’s Office.

During the hearing, Imran Khan’s lawyer requested the provision of records related to the previous decision to close the £190 million case.

Lawyer Salman Safdar argued that the Al-Qadir Trust case involving Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi is currently under trial, and Imran Khan was initially arrested by the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The NAB initially filed a reference against eight accused, and the court declared the other six as absconders for non-appearance.

Salman Safdar stated that they had requested the trial court to obtain the record of the NAB Executive Board meeting, but the trial court rejected their request. He noted that the trial judge provided surprising reasons for rejecting the request, including that the investigating officer was neither the writer nor the custodian of the record.

Justice Hassan Aurangzeb inquired whether the money received from the UK had been returned to Malik Riaz and his family, and who sent the money to Pakistan.

Salman Safdar responded that the money had been returned and was sent by Malik Riaz’s family. Malik Riaz had provided land to Imran Khan for the establishment of the Al-Qadir Trust. Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb then asked, “Where is this university?” He was informed that the university is near Jhelum and is functional, and that funds were provided for its construction and furniture.

Justice Hassan Aurangzeb asked if the Al-Qadir Trust is registered. He then remarked that it is not registered, and he has a case pending on this matter.

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb commented that if you had found out earlier, you should have filed the petition sooner; it was filed at the last moment and should be dismissed.

Salman Safdar informed the court that the Supreme Court has barred final decisions on NAB references in NAB amendment cases.

Later, the Islamabad High Court adjourned the hearing until Wednesday, prohibiting the trial court from announcing a verdict in the £190 million case.
