India Releases Water into Chenab River Without Notice, Moderate Flood at Marala Barrage

Lahore: India has released water into the Chenab River without prior notice, resulting in a moderate flood flow at the Marala Barrage.

According to reports from the Flood Warning Center, a high-level flood flow of 250,000 cubic meters per second is expected in the next 24 hours. Currently, a moderate flood flow has reached the Marala Barrage, with water flow recorded at 180,000 cubic meters per second.

Warnings for high-level floods have been issued for the Marala, Qadirabad, and other barrages. There is concern that areas in Hafizabad, Gujranwala, and Sialkot may face inundation. Sources from the Indus Waters Commission indicate that last year, India had notified about a 200,000 cubic meters per second flow. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has directed relevant departments to stay alert and implement protective measures.
