Saudi Crown Prince MBS Expresses Fear of Assassination Over Israel Normalization Efforts

New York: In a recent discussion with U.S. lawmakers, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman expressed significant concerns about his personal safety amid his efforts to normalize relations with Israel.

According to a Politico report published Wednesday, bin Salman conveyed his fear of assassination, drawing parallels to the assassination of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who was killed in 1981 after signing a peace agreement with Israel.

The crown prince reportedly invoked Sadat’s fate to underscore the potential risks associated with his diplomatic pursuit. He questioned U.S. officials about the measures taken to protect Sadat and emphasized that any normalization agreement between Riyadh and Jerusalem must address the issue of a Palestinian state—an aspect currently opposed by the Israeli government.

Despite these concerns, Mohammed bin Salman is said to be determined to move forward with a major deal involving the U.S. and Israel, viewing it as essential for Saudi Arabia. He has framed his commitment to normalization as a way to secure his role as the custodian of Islam’s holy sites and address a key regional issue of justice.
