Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Arrested by Military, Court Martial Begins

Rawalpindi: Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, former chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been placed under military custody as a Field General Court Martial (FGCM) commences to address charges against him. This move follows multiple allegations of violation of the Pakistan Army Act post-retirement.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a detailed court of inquiry was conducted, complying with Supreme Court orders, to ascertain the correctness of complaints against Hameed in the Top City Case. The inquiry established violations of the Pakistan Army Act, leading to disciplinary action under the Act’s provisions.
The allegations against Hameed include misuse of authority and office, as per the petitioner, Moeez Khan, owner of Top City society. The Supreme Court had declared these allegations serious and initiated an inquiry in November 2023. The army constituted an inquiry committee, chaired by a major general, to investigate accusations against Hameed.
The FGCM process has begun, and Hameed has been taken into military custody. This development is part of the military’s internal accountability mechanism, demonstrating the army’s commitment to upholding the law and maintaining discipline within its ranks.
The case against Hameed involves incidents allegedly involving him and his associates, including Brigadier (retd) Naeem Fakhar, Brigadier (retd) Ghaffar, and Irtiza Haroon. The inquiry was conducted under Supreme Court directives, exercising powers under Article 184(3).
