Washington: An American woman who stole chicken wings worth $1.5 million has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
According to international news agencies, a U.S. court has sentenced Vera Liddell, a school employee, to nine years in prison for stealing chicken wings valued at $1.5 million. The court found her guilty of the theft, which occurred over the course of a year.
Prosecutors revealed that Liddell had stolen approximately 11,000 boxes of chicken wings. These boxes were originally prepared for distribution to students during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The case against the 68-year-old school employee began in 2020. The theft came to light when the school administration noticed an unusually high food budget, leading to an audit that uncovered Lydell’s theft.
Officials reported that Liddell had purchased a large quantity of chicken wings and used the school’s cargo van to transport the boxes, but the food intended for students was never actually delivered to them.
