Lahore: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, has stated that if the government fails to implement every single clause of the agreement, they will initiate a wheel-jam strike. He added that they are counting each day and that Jamaat-e-Islami knows how to enforce its agreements.
Speaking to a large public gathering in Lahore, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman underscored the urgency of the situation, citing unresolved issues such as high electricity bills and rampant inflation as primary concerns. “The government must honor its commitments, or we will intensify our protests across the country. The public stands with us, and we call on them to join our fight for justice,” Rehman declared.
The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan mentioned that Jamaat-e-Islami has become a center of hope for the oppressed and called for attention to the issues of Balochistan. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader criticized the government’s foreign policy and its handling of domestic issues, including the ongoing plight of missing persons in Balochistan. He urged for their immediate recovery and condemned the administration’s reliance on foreign aid while neglecting critical internal matters.
He claimed that enemies are conspiring to break the country and identified the United States as Pakistan’s greatest enemy, advocating for resolving issues through national consensus.
Rehman accused the government of failing to address these commitments promptly and criticized the Punjab Police’s efforts to disrupt the protest, calling them ineffective. He also emphasized the need for better relations with neighboring countries and a stronger stance against the influence of countries like India and the United States.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said that during the Islamabad sit-in, the Punjab government made arrests and blocked women’s caravans. He questioned when the Punjab Chief Minister’s seat will be vacated, stating that Punjab unites on the issue of Qadianis and will not allow any conspiracy against the finality of prophethood to succeed.
He further suggested that if there is any sabotage from neighboring countries, the Afghan government should be consulted. He also criticized the IPPs (Independent Power Producers), saying that if they continue to exploit the people, no one will respect them, and everyone now knows that IPPs are the country’s enemies.
Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami had concluded a 14-day sit-in on Murree Road on August 9 following an agreement with the government. The key points of the deal included promises to reduce taxes on the salaried class, lower electricity rates, and establish a more effective income tax system targeting landlords.
