Ankara: The Israeli military is using Amazon’s cloud services and Microsoft and Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) tools for military purposes amid the increasing volume of data on Palestinians and Gaza.
According to reports from +972 Magazine and the Hebrew news site Local Call, an audio recording they obtained reveals that Colonel Racheli Dembinski, commander of the Center of Computing and Information Systems unit of the Israeli military, disclosed the use of these technologies during a presentation to nearly 100 military and industrial personnel on July 10.
The Center of Computers and Information Systems oversees all data processing for the Israeli military.
Dembinski’s presentation, the first public confirmation, indicates the military’s use of civilian tech companies’ cloud storage and AI services in the ongoing assault on Gaza since October 7.
Logos of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure appeared twice on Dembinski’s lecture slides, highlighting the military’s “operational cloud,” which is typically secured on internal military servers.
Dembinski described this internal cloud as a “weapon platform,” including applications for targeting bombing sites, a portal for viewing live drone footage over Gaza, and fire, command, and control systems.
